What Are Marine Canvas Enclosures?

Marine canvas enclosures are custom-fitted panels of canvas and clear vinyl that surround your boat’s cockpit area. They attach to your bimini top, hardtop, or T-top frame to create a protected interior space. When properly installed, they block wind, rain, and cold while still allowing good visibility from clear vinyl windows.

Types of Enclosures

Full enclosures cover all sides of the cockpit. Aft curtains close off the back of the boat. Side curtains protect the port and starboard sides. Connector curtains fill the gap between your bimini top and windshield. Each piece is custom-made to fit your specific boat and frame setup.

Clear Vinyl Window Options

The quality of your clear vinyl windows makes a huge difference in visibility and longevity. Standard vinyl works fine but can yellow and scratch over time. Premium Strataglass or Eisenglass vinyl is optically clear, scratch-resistant, and maintains clarity for years. We recommend investing in quality vinyl for the windows you look through most.

Zippers, Snaps, and Fasteners

Marine-grade zippers and stainless steel snaps are critical for durability. Cheap zippers corrode and fail quickly in a marine environment. At Charley’s, we use YKK marine zippers and high-quality Tenax or stainless snap fasteners on every enclosure we build.

Caring for Your Enclosure

Always store enclosure panels properly when not in use to prevent crease marks in clear vinyl. Use 210 Plexus or a dedicated vinyl cleaner on clear panels, never Windex or ammonia-based cleaners. Rinse fabric panels with fresh water after saltwater or lake outings and allow to dry completely before storage.
