Custom Boat Cockpit Covers
The cockpit is the part of your boat that takes the most abuse open to sun, rain, leaves, and everything the weather throws at it while the boat sits. A cockpit cover that fits tight is the cheapest protection you can give the most expensive part of your interior. At Charley’s Marine Canvas & Upholstery LLC, we design and fabricate custom cockpit covers for boat owners in Gibraltar, MI and throughout Downriver and Metro Detroit.
Skip the cover and rain settles into your seats, sun bakes and cracks the vinyl, and moisture invites mildew into every cushion and carpet. A properly fitted cockpit cover keeps water out, keeps the interior clean, and cuts down the cleaning you do every time you head out.
Cockpit Covers Fitted to Your Boat
There’s no such thing as a one-size cockpit cover that actually works. Every windshield, rail line, and helm is shaped a little differently, so we pattern each cover to your boat. The result snaps down clean, stays tight in wind, and sheds water instead of trapping it.
We build cockpit covers in the configurations that fit how you use the boat:
Snap-on cockpit covers: Attach cleanly around the cockpit opening for everyday protection at the slip or in storage.
Over-the-windshield covers: Extend forward over the windshield to the base for fuller coverage and a smooth, watertight fit.
Combination bow & cockpit covers: Tie into a matching bow cover so the whole deck is protected as one system.
Support-pole setups: Fitted with a center pole or bows so the cover crowns and drains, instead of sagging and holding a puddle.
Built From Marine-Grade Canvas
A cockpit cover lives outdoors, so it has to be built for it. We use marine-grade fabrics Sunbrella solution-dyed acrylic and coated polyesters like Top Gun that resist UV fading, water, and mildew. Every cover is sewn with UV-resistant thread and finished with corrosion-resistant snaps and hardware, so the fasteners don’t seize and the seams don’t rot in the sun.
- Marine-grade Sunbrella and Top Gun fabrics
- UV-resistant, rot-proof stitching
- Corrosion-resistant snaps and hardware
- Reinforced edges and stress points
- Support poles to prevent water pooling
- Custom color options to match your boat
Already Have a Cockpit Cover? We Repair Those Too
If your current cockpit cover still has life in it but the snaps are pulling, the seams are splitting, or the binding is worn, you may not need a new one. Bring it in and we’ll rebind edges, re-sew seams, and replace snaps and hardware to get more seasons out of it. If it’s past saving, we’ll build you a new one. Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a cockpit cover and a full boat cover?
A full boat cover protects the entire boat, bow to stern. A cockpit cover focuses on the open cockpit area the seats, helm, and floor which is where most weather damage happens. Many owners run a cockpit cover for everyday use and a full cover for storage. We build both.
Can you make a cockpit cover that snaps to my existing windshield?
Yes. We build snap-on covers that attach around the cockpit, over-the-windshield covers that extend forward to the base, and combinations that tie into a bow cover. We’ll fit whichever style matches your boat and how you use it.
Will a cockpit cover keep rainwater from pooling?
It will when it’s built right. We fit cockpit covers with a support pole or bows so the cover crowns and water runs off instead of collecting in the middle. A pooling cover is usually a fit problem, and that’s exactly what a custom cover solves.
Can you repair my old cockpit cover instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the fabric is still sound but the snaps, seams, or binding are worn, a repair is the cheaper option. Bring it in and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or better replaced.
How long does a custom cockpit cover take?
Most cockpit covers are patterned, sewn, and fitted within a couple of weeks, depending on the season. Contact us for a current turnaround time.
